Once the RMV has received your certificate and 6 months have passed since you got your permit, you may take the road test.
We highly recommend that you take the road test with us. 95% of our students choose to take the road with us, and 95% pass the test their first time. There are many benefits of taking the test with us. We take care of all the logistical problems for you. We will register you for the test and provide the car that complies with the RMV requirements. You will be driving the same car that you used during your driving lessons, and you will be familiar with the area, since it is the same area where you have practiced with your driving instructor.
If you choose not to take the test with us, then, you will have to call the RMV and schedule your own appointment. You will also have to provide a car that complies with the RMV requirements, and you may have to drive in an unfamiliar area.
Whether or not you take the test with us, the RMV will charge you $85 for your license.
You must prepay your picture license fees to the MassDOT at least 48 hours before your Massachusetts driver's license test. To pay, please visit any MassDOT branch, call 857-368-8000 or use ONLINE LINK. Pay My Road Test and/or License Fees online transaction

If your permanent license does not arrive in the mail within four weeks of issuance of your temporary license, please call the RMV Phone Center.
